An Examination of Research Conducted with Teachers in Turkey Regarding 21st Century Skills

Abstract

The type of person needed in the century we live in has many desired characteristics. 21st-century skills, in this context, are emphasized by many institutions and organizations as skills that can meet the expectations of the era. Therefore, teachers hold a very important place in the education system. This research aims to examine studies conducted on teachers in the Turkish education system regarding 21st-century skills. In this context, a qualitative research method and document analysis technique were used, and 60 studies were examined. 44 of the examined studies were postgraduate theses, and 16 were articles. The study concluded that the postgraduate theses were prepared at different universities in Turkey, covered the years 2018-2025, that more theses were produced in the Department of Educational Studies, Programs and Teaching, and that qualitative research methods, relational survey designs, and scales were generally used as data collection tools in these studies. These studies mainly dealt with educational practices, teaching effectiveness, curriculum development, and student learning outcomes at various educational levels. Furthermore, the studies examined revealed that the sample group mostly consisted of teachers from different disciplines.
